Studies1 have shown that Gotu Kola promotes the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a natural enzyme that is known to be effective in stimulating the production of new brain cells. The release of BDNF is also associated with better memory. Gotu Kola’s potential to boost the brain’s capacity to retain information is so strong, in fact, that scientists continue to explore its possible contribution to the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. A 2008 study2 concluded that high doses of Gotu Kola may lessen memory decline for the elderly, and can even work as a natural mood booster.
